Europe will be in the future a multicultural and multiethnic space to live. We must learn how to cohabitate in order to avoid the growth of the intolerance, that's even more important when we think on the kids and young people. We must bring them up from and with democratic values.

Nowadays as never before, we, the whole humanity, are part of a global village, interrelated thanks to the media and characterised by the integration, the universalism and the globalisation. The world has become a big square where people of every race and culture walk, and a big market where the capital, the technology, the resources, the corporations and the products freely move around.

The future's challenge is to know how to harmonize this open and universalist dimension and this advisable ethnical loyalty. Whenever the balance is lost, it is lost there where it is more awake and fragile, there where this "abstract" Universalist dimension exists. It seems that when we found loyalty conflicts and a competition of resources the ethnical national special features grows because we reject "the other, the one who is different", we intensify our prejudices and we look for scapegoats. That's why we must keep our minds and hearts open.

The multiculturalism is a good that enriches the society if there's an intercultural and reciprocal dialogue, respecting a minimum cohabitation values and rules like the respect for the Human Rights and the constitutional laws.

In Astrea-ICSCE we bet for an education based on the democracy, the respect and the integration of the different cultures. We are convinced that that's the way to reach to a cohabitation that enriches everybody. We must give the opportunity to our young people to try multicultural practices leading to integration. We must bet that they will become open mind adults, knowing and being able to cohabitate in a multicultural society and beneficing of its advantages.
