From 4 to 7 March in Barcelona, the Anna Lindh Foundation held its first Forum, to give new impetus to cooperation among civil society organizations engaged in intercultural dialogue in the Union for the Mediterranean and to enrich the activities of the 43 countries belonging to the Foundation. Attended by over five hundred thousand persons belonging to organizations from European countries and the southern Mediterranean.
The three-day forum has combined the discussions on key issues at the core of intercultural relations between people in the Region, and the first platform for different civil society networks, national Anna Lindh Foundation to share ideas, forge new alliances and prepare the new shares to local and transnational.
Priorities for civil society actors are the enhancement of educational programs, mobility, translation and initiatives of migrants, the importance of cultural citizenship, improve coordination among existing initiatives for dialogue and regional networks, ensuring equal in terms of participation of civil society on both shores of the Mediterranean to respond collectively to the challenges of unemployment and the impact of the global economic crisis on intercultural relations in the region.
The final day also ended with the announcement of the organizers that the next Anna Lindh Forum will take place in 2012, to mark the launch of the next phase of the Foundation three-year action across the Union for the Mediterranean region.
The delegation of ASTREA-ICSCE attended and participated in workshops and conferences know first hand the work of other organizations belonging to the Foundation and making important contacts as a first step in potential future projects in the short to medium term.
